Senior Design Manager

Our client is a top-tier multinational multi award winning main contractor with a turnover in the billions whose North West Building team has created a great reputation for delivering significant, varied and interesting projects and have constructed iconic schemes in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire.
They are cash rich, typically make above industry average margins on their projects, have an excellent supply chain who they pay promptly and treat with respect, staff turnover is low and their staff are among the best in the industry.
Due to expanding their portfolio across the Northern Powerhouse and with recent work wins in Leeds, they are looking to recruit a Yorkshire based team to oversee the build of a £40m residential project and future works throughout Yorkshire. A position of high priority for our client is a Senior Design Manager to lead development and implementation of the design processes.
Responsibilities / duties will include;
- Compiling Contractor’s proposals for contract
- Agreeing appointments and scope of services of the Design Team
- Leading design deliverable schedules for each design discipline, coordinating with procurement and construction programmes
- Overseeing data, bid deliverables and reports within both the constraints of the contract and internal commercial objectives
- Briefing of the Design Team including MEP elements, management of any 3rd parties, sub-contractor CDP elements or novated design teams
- Briefing of internal staff members such as Design Managers, Assistants, Coordinators, and Document Controllers
- Advising the design and construction team in regards to “buildability” of the design proposals
- Reporting progress against “Information Required Schedule” and Design Programme
- Liaising with design team and third parties such as statutory authorities, (e.g., Town Planning, Building Control, Utilities, etc.), managing submittal requirements to Client representatives
Ideal candidate must have;
- A Minimum fifteen years construction / engineering experience with a top tier contractor
- Ten years’ experience working within a Design Manager position
- Extensive understanding of the construction process from pre-construction/tender stages through to delivery and handover
- Proven experience in delivering design services and successful track record of implementing design strategies
- Excellent understanding of BREEAM and Value Engineering principles
- Experience within the most current forms of procurement
- Operational knowledge of BIM requirements and the ability to promote the importance of its implementation.
- A Qualification in Building Engineering/ Construction/ Architecture
