Senior Quantity Surveyor

The Company:

We are working with a leading top tier national contractor whose North West region has created a great reputation for delivering varied and interesting projects for clients based in the North West of England.
They are in the process of building some of the North West’s most iconic projects.
Of all the people we have placed in roles with this company over the last 10 years all are still with the business and the vast majority of people we send for interview with them want to work for them.
They are a family business who genuinely look after their workforce and have a very approachable and successful senior management team in the region.
They secure the majority of their projects through negotiation (they are good at what they do and tend to leave their clients pleased with their projects) and do work on selected Frameworks too.

Although they are one of the Top 20 Construction Groups in the UK, they have the feel of a smaller family business where employees are valued and supported.
They are cash rich, make good margins on their projects, have an excellent supply chain who they pay promptly and treat with respect (we know this from personal experience!), staff turnover in general is low due to all of the above and they have a really capable team in the region.

The Role:

They are now in a position to add to their North West Commercial team on a significant £100 Mil+ new build project.

Reporting in to a resident Commercial Manager you will be responsible for overseeing key subcontract packages and the work of a commercial team of Graduate/Assistant & Project QSs.

Projects in general are constructed for both Public and Private Sector clients and are generally either commercial, leisure, education, multi-storey residential or industrial in nature.

Reporting in to the Commercial Manager you'll generally be project based, the initial scheme will keep you entertained for a little over 2 years.
Typical duties will include;

Undertake all commercial and contractual requirements on the designated projects in accordance with the company procedures and processes.

Ensuring sound financial performance including profitability, cash flow, and managing risks and opportunities.

Preparation of accurate and detailed monthly cost reports for review with the Commercial Manager.

Good working knowledge and application of Main Contract and Sub-Contract Forms and standard Method of Measurement.

Preparing and agreeing Monthly Valuations, including valuing variations and forecast final accounts.

Appointment of Subcontractors in accordance with Company Procedures, including procurement and account management including valuations, payment notices and agreement of final accounts.

To work closely with Contracts Management to ensure all required site records and correspondence are completed in accordance with the specific Contract requirements and Company Procedures.

Maintain close working relationship with the client and design team to assist in the success of the project.

Liaise with Contracts Management to review and monitor project costs whilst achieving high standards of quality and health and safety.

You:

To be successful in this role you will need to have worked as a Senior Quantity Surveyor previously for a building contractor on significant projects similar to those described above valued from £20 Million upwards.
You will be based in or be able to commute to the North West of England.
IT literate with experience using JCT Contracts.
