Senior Quantity Surveyor – Tier 1

Rate: £400-£450 per day (Outside IR35)

The Opportunity
We are partnering with a leading Tier 1 contractor renowned for delivering major construction projects across the North of England. Due to sustained growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Leeds on a freelance basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile projects within a well-established business offering long-term contract potential and a collaborative working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and adapt the commercial strategy throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide commercial guidance and challenge across project teams and the wider construction process.
- Take ownership of all commercial and contractual matters from procurement through to final account.
- Prepare tender packages, analyse subcontract returns, negotiate terms, and manage subcontract accounts.
- Produce and agree valuations, certificates, invoices, and payments.
- Maintain accurate forecasting and regularly update projected final accounts.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate final accounts in a timely manner.
- Administer and manage traditional construction contracts on projects exceeding £50m in value.
- Record, prepare, and submit claims relating to delay and loss/expense.
- Develop and present robust commercial arguments and representations to relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a Tier 1 or major contractor environment.
- Strong working knowledge of JCT contracts and contract administration.
- Commercially astute with excellent negotiation and financial management skills.
- Sound understanding of construction law, legislation, and industry best practice.
- Experience managing CVRs and financial reporting processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive commercial situations effectively and professionally.
- Strong analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
